A life and legacy dedicated to creating a world filled with hope and possibility.

Profile picture of Jim PulliamIt is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Jim Pulliam. Jim’s remarkable life was defined by service, innovation, and an unwavering commitment to education. Early in his career, he was instrumental in founding a community college in a small, rural desert town, creating opportunities for students who previously had none. His passion for education extended into what should have been his retirement, as he played a key role in the growth of the Company of Experts and The Center for Appreciative Inquiry.

Jim was deeply committed to expanding access to education, always seeking ways to create opportunities for students and educators alike. He had a visionary approach, embracing technology as a tool for making education more accessible. Through his work with Distance Edu Learning, Inc., and his development of several unique patents, Jim championed the idea of making learning available to students worldwide.

Jim’s life was one of service, always centered on his passions for the environment, education, and supporting others in their journeys toward leadership. He believed in helping people realize their dreams, especially those from marginalized communities. Jim was a tireless advocate for women and people of color, lifting them up through his words, actions, and unwavering support. His work created lasting change, and his legacy will continue to inspire new generations of leaders.

Jim had a special gift for sharing stories of success, especially those born out of Appreciative Inquiry. His storytelling had a unique way of lifting others and helping them see possibilities where they had once seen problems. Jim read every practicum submitted since 2005 and participated in some way in every training since then. He cherished the opportunity to meet each of you, whether in training, consulting, meetings, or online. He took great pride in the emerging stories and was always honored to witness the growth and transformation of each person he encountered.
